Meydenbauer Bay Residence
Bellevue, Washington
1998-1999
The most challenging project ever commissioned in the studio, this residence descends down steep terrain to the water below. Due to the site’s topographical challenges, careful planning and engineering were required to approve the project within the local building department.
The home is envisioned as a Venetian palace, using the waters off Lake Washington as its personal canal. It’s built on 7 different levels and incorporates an elevator for convenience, when needed. The complex geometry of the home transcends 8 stories from the driveway entrance, down to the dock along the waterfront. The owner’s wish for comfortable and direct access to the outdoors is accomplished by terraces on various levels, which also offer dramatic views of the lake and the Seattle skyline beyond.
