Rose Point Residence
Kirkland, Washington
2000-2001
This project soon became an office favorite, when we were asked to design a residence that paid homage to traditional structures built in Japan.
The concept was a pinwheel layout, with the bedrooms, recreation room and an office positioned around a generous living space and kitchen. Priority to water views were given to the master suite, family and living rooms, while the kitchen was oriented east towards the entrance courtyard, with its granite water feature.
Since the property lay along Lake Washington, careful attention was given to designing a covered outdoor terrace, which would be used to access the water, as well as for gatherings of family and guests.
Using sustainable materials was a priority. The exterior is clad in Ironwood, cedar and stone, while the interior is finished in hardwoods and steel. A grouping of large skylights over the living room’s inner wall, invites natural light to the center of the home. Upstairs, a large recreation room handles the overflow activities of the children.
